Our Sicilian WIne And Sail Experience begins with a one night pre cruise stay in Catania before boarding the magnificent Sea Cloud Spirit for our 7 day circumnavigation of Sicily. The cruise terminates in the historic city of Valletta, Malta, where we will spend one night post cruise.

 

This wine cruise will be different than any we have done before. First of all, the main venue, The Sea Cloud Spirit is totally unique, and we don't say this rhetorically. The three Sea Clouds are the only passenger ships with hand operated sails in existence today. Think here of the operation of the sails of a naval training vessel that you may have seen, with a couple dozen riggers up in the masts. The ship offers intimate, relaxed and refined luxury, classic decor, truly gourmet dining and a blend of the adventure of classic sailing with modern comforts. Sea Cloud Spirit offers all the creature comforts of a traditional cruise ship, but is totaly unlike any cruise you have ever been on. Watching the sails go up is an amazingly orchestrated and profoundly emotional experience. And the cruise operates under sail over 60% of the time on most cruises; totaly quiet, no vibration, and amazingly stable.

 

And now the wine. Over the last 15 years or so, amazing things have been happening in Sicily. The vineyards on the slopes of Mt Etna are unique, not only in the diverse elevations of the vineyards, but the unique effects produced by the volcanic soils, including the ability to grow wine grapes on ungrafted wines. Deep, full bodied red wines can be produced within a few miles of  cold climate whites! A whole collection of unquiqe terroirs

 

At our three wine dinners, and also at our meals ashore, you will taste the absolute best examples, regardless of cost, with many of these wines reaching critical scores of 95-99 points. At each wine dinner you will taste seven examples, a truly unique opportunity.
